Bike Riding with Papa

My parents send Phillip money for his birthday every year and this year he decided to use it to get a seat for his bike so he and Sophie can go riding together. They love having this special time together and I love being home alone!!

Saturday Mornings

This is one of Sophie's favorite things to do, sit in Mommy and Daddy's bed and watch TV with the remote (batteries taken out, of course!)

Rail Road Museum

Sophie's latest obsession is trains (and cars, and planes, and boats--anything that moves!), so I took her to the Rail Road Museum in Golden. She had so much fun climbing all over the trains and touching everything. We will definitely go back there soon!

Professional Pictures for Sophie's 2nd Birthday

These are just a few of the pictures we got. I love the ones where she is showing that she is 2!

Tagged!

Cousin Ella tagged Sophie, so I am suppose to write 5 special things about her. Here we go:

1. She adores her Daddy. I hate days when he works late, because all she does all day is ask where "Papa" is!

2. "Backyardigans" is her obsession. She adores the show, the songs, and especially the dancing. It is hilarious to watch her imitate what they do on the TV!!

3. She is 2 going on 16. If she doesn't calm down, I am in so much trouble when she really hits those teen years. HELP!!!

4. Men of all sizes and shapes are her favorite. She will flirt like you can't believe with the guy who has tattoos and piercings all over. Yet another reason I am dreading the teenage years.

5. She loves to be outside. She doesn't care what the weather is, she just wants to be outside to play in the yard, or go for a walk or whatever! The park is a wonderful place, because I can sit and watch her and she gets out all her crazy energy!

Update

Okay, I know that it has been a while since I've really written anything, so here is an update.

Sophie and I went to Florida back in April. We flew into Jacksonville then drove down to St. Augustine to be with Phillip's Grandma for her 90th Birthday. My mother-in-law, Susan, and sisters-in-law, Christy, Liz and Brie, and Brie's almost 5 year-old son Corbin, were all there as well. We had a lot of fun hanging out and everyone just adored Sophie (big shocker). After a few days there, Sophie and I drove across the state (5 hours) to see Sara and her family in Cape Coral. Sophie and Aspen were instant buds and had so much fun. We went out on a boat and I think that was Sophie's favorite. At first we were passing other boats in the canal and she kept asking to go on the boat, she didn't understand that she was on one until we started going fast! Then she fell asleep and woke up in time to hit the beach. She really enjoyed sitting on the shore with the waves coming up over her legs. It was as smooth and calm as a lake, just perfect! I really liked getting to spend some one-on-one time with my little sis. We haven't been able to do that in quite a while. The whole trip was just awesome.

In May, Phillip turned 32, we had our 7th anniversary, and Monica and her boys came to stay for almost a week. Kyle is almost 3 and Miles is 6 months. They had so much fun playing with Sophie. She and Kyle have always been good buds, even though Kyle is a lover and Sophie is a fighter :) Monica and I had a good time just hanging out (like usual) and watching the kids interact with each other. My parents came out over Memorial Day, and true to form, my child would only say "Grandpa" when I was trying to get her to say "Granna"! She has such a special relationship with both of her Grandpa's and her Great-Grandpa. (I think it is only fitting since my Grandpa and I have such a close bond.) Don't get me wrong, she adores all three of her Grandma's, too, she just really likes males, of any size or shape. She definitely prefers her daddy over me any day.

Now it is June and we are preparing for a week long visit to Utah. My sister's whole family is coming from Florida and we are all going to be together for the first time in a year! Even Sara's foster son, Dane is coming, so we will be complete!! I am so excited to go and get to celebrate Sophie's birthday with her cousins. It worked out that we did that last year, too, so maybe it will become a tradition!

I can't believe my baby is going to be 2 on the 20th. Time has just flown by. But, I really hope this next year flies by, too, because I'm already tired of having a opinionated, stubborn, independent 2 year-old in the house! She is exhausting.

That's it for now. Oh, we will be in Utah from the 21st - 29th, for anyone who cares!

Cape Coral, FL

This is the last part of our Florida trip. Sophie and I had so much fun playing with Aunt Sara, Uncle Brent, Dane, Aspen, Ella and Jules. These are just some of the many pictures I took!

"Touch-a-Truck"

Douglas County had their 2008 Spring Showcase Event at the Fairgrounds this last Saturday. We are always looking for something fun and free to do as a family, so this sounded good. We found out that this year they were having a special event called "Touch-a-Truck" lots of volunteers brought their vehicles out for the kids to climb in and touch. Sophie had so much fun, I just know she is going to do something that has to do with driving when she grows up!

Easter Dress

Here is my ham showing off for the camera in her pretty Easter dress!

She wouldn't put her puppy down for the pictures!

Easter Basket

This is the Saturday before Easter Sunday. It was always tradition in my house growing up that the Easter Bunny came this day. Daddy would take us all out for a drive while Mom stayed home to "help" the Bunny hide our baskets. We are happily carrying on this tradition!

Sophie and I flew to Utah for a week and had a blast!! My Mom went down to Texas to be with her sister, so we went to care for the house and my Dad and brother Adam (really, we just wanted an excuse to go visit!). These are some pictures from our time there. . .

Why I love Moms

Moms are the backbone of any family!

Mom and Dad were watching TV when Mom said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed."

She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches. Rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer for supper the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and started the coffee pot for brewing the next morning.

She then put some wet clothes in the dryer, put a load of clothes into the washer, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button.

She picked up the game pieces left on the table, put the phone back on the charger and put the telephone book into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry.

She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom.

She stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for the field trip, and pulled a text book out from hiding under the chair. She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope and wrote a quick note for the grocery store. She put both near her purse.

Mom then washed her face with 3 in 1 cleanser, put on her Night solution & age fighting moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and filed her nails.

Dad called out, "I thought you were going to bed."

"I'm on my way," she said.

She put some water into the dog's dish and put the cat outside, then made sure the doors were locked and the patio light was on.

She looked in on each of the kids and turned out their bedside lamps and TV's, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks into the hamper, and had a brief conversation with the one up still doing homework.

In her own room, she set the alarm; laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the shoe rack. She added three things to her 6 most important things to do list.

She said her prayers, and visualized the accomplishment of her goals.

About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular. "I'm going to bed."

And he did...without another thought.

Anything extraordinary here? Wonder why women live longer...?

CAUSE WE ARE MADE FOR THE LONG HAUL..... (and we can't die sooner, we still have things to do!!!!)

Another first

My daughter is growing up too fast. I can't believe it. Every day brings a new skill. Like today . . . I am taking a shower and keep hearing a weird noise. I get out and realize that it is my sweet little girl opening and slamming my bedroom door! Yep, she is tall enough to just reach our lever door handles standing on her tippy-toes. Yet another layer of childproofing is happening in our house now!

She had her 18 month Doctors appointment today. She is 22 lbs. 9 oz. (still quite small - 20th%), and 2'8" tall (getting taller, now in the 44th%!). She is ahead in all of her skills except talking, and if she would open her mouth, I'm sure she would be ahead in that too! The Doctor says she is looking great and she had her last shots for a while -- HALLELUJAH!!!!! She screamed the whole time we were in the room, my sweet-tempered little monkey, but she still managed to charm the nurses and doctor. She is trouble!
